An Independent Primary Care Practice Fights Back

Austin Heerwagen • May 10, 2022

Colorado Primary Health Care is announcing the move to a new, permanent facility in centrally-located Littleton, CO. The primary care clinic moved from its previous location on South Broadway to the new location at 20 W Dry Creek Circle, Littleton, CO 80120.

However, as an independent primary care practice, Colorado Primary Health Care’s growth is not at all the norm in the healthcare industry. In 2020, the AMA published a report that showed only 38% of family medicine physicians in the US were self-employed owners (Kane, 2021). Just four years prior in 2016, nearly 48% of these physicians owned their practice (Kane, 2016). As the effects
of COVID-19 continue to ripple through the healthcare ecosystem, private ownership without a doubt has continued to fall.

Most large hospital systems and corporate medical groups are under significant pressure to grow revenues and profits. Unfortunately for patients, the right care or the right referral isn’t always the most profitable for the hospital system. Independent primary care practices, like Colorado Primary Health Care, exist to serve their patients over profits. The owner, Dr. Andy Fine, has been in private practice in Littleton, CO since 1997.

“Our new location was entirely built around our patients and their needs,” Dr. Fine said. “We are proud to continue to operate independently and provide unbiased primary care to our community. This location allows us to do that in a bigger and more sophisticated way.”

The new clinic has undergone significant renovations in the last month. The 7,500sqft building allows the clinic to expand from 14 exam rooms to 20 exam rooms and two procedure rooms. In addition, they now offer onsite X-ray, ultrasound, behavioral health,
PCR lab testing, physical therapy, and soon clinical trials.
